Profile: Tim Holder PhD

Applied Sport Psychology
BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Psychologist (Scientific support)

Tim completed his undergraduate studies in Human Movement Studies and Maths at St Mary’s University College in 1989 and immediately went to what is now the University of Chichester where he combined part time study for a PhD with teaching and working as an applied sport psychologist with the English Table Tennis Association.

He completed his PhD in 1998 which investigated the sensory information used to acquire and control rapid movements in a fast ball sport. Tim has been a BASES accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Psychology) for fourteen years and has supervised three candidates to completion and accredited status and is currently supervising four other probationary sport and exercise psychologists.

Tim has worked with performers as an applied sport psychologist from a wide range of sports and has worked through national governing bodies of sport for table tennis, swimming, squash, amateur boxing and sailing.

He was the chair of the BASES Psychology section from 2000-2002. He still enjoys the challenge of sport and tries to get to play golf as much as he can (which unfortunately is not very often) and has completed both London and New York marathons but has still to break the 4 hour mark.
