The New Writing Programme at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, is staging a rehearsed reading of local playwright John Waller’s exciting new play Irish Flames.
John Waller was a Liberal councillor in Richmond for 17 years and three times parliamentary candidate for Twickenham.
Irish Flames is based on his book of the same title, a thriller based on the memories of Peter Waller – a boy growing up during the 1920 arrival of the Black and Tans. Peter Waller, co-founder of the American School in London, died in 1990 and gave a partial manuscript to John Waller, his half-brother.
The reading of Irish Flames takes place on February 17 at 7.00pm in the University College’s theatre. Admission is free. From 6.30 pm, John Waller will be signing copies of his book.
This is the first in a series celebrating the work of local writers. The New Writing Programme at St Mary’s University College is currently looking for new scripts to develop within its public theatre.
