Recruitment Team Short Listed for Award

The Student Recruitment Team at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has been short listed for the prestigious 2009 Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Award for the most outstanding Student Recruitment Team.

The team is responsible for running the open days at the University College, attending higher education fairs and liaising with schools. Recruitment activity stretches from maintaining local links to campaigns as far away as Asia and America.

The award is open to all universities in the UK and the team are up against five other contenders. The Team is headed by Teresa Kelly (Marketing Manager for UK Recruitment and Widening Participation) and she is assisted by Rachel Trippitt, Claire-Marie Pomeroy and Alasdair Robertson, all former students of the University College.

Teresa said: "I am very proud of my team and this is recognition of their hard work. It is a great honour to be short listed for such a competitive award"

Teresa has worked hard to raise the profile of the University College by ensuring that St Mary’s is represented at a wide range of recruitment events and making improvements to open events at the University College

Guild HE, one of the two formal representative bodies for Higher Education in the UK, reported that applications to St Mary’s have more than doubled in the last five years.

"The increase in student numbers shows that we are succeeding in getting the message to people about all the advantages of studying at St Mary’s," said Teresa.

Potential students consider a number of factors when choosing a university including the courses on offer, teaching and learning resources, support for students and student lifestyle.

"St Mary’s is special because of a combination of quality courses, the community atmosphere and the beautiful self contained campus. We have the best of both worlds, having a peaceful location but being close to Central London." said Teresa.
