Olympic Gold Medallist Attends Sports Dinner

Olympic Gold Medallist Darren Campbell spoke at the St Mary’s University College Annual Athletics Union Sports Dinner on Friday 24 April at Twickenham Stadium.

The Sports Dinner, attended by over 250 students and staff, celebrated a year of St Mary’s successes on the sports field. Awards for best team and individual performances were presented by Darren Campbell and by a number of representatives from St Mary’s including Dr Arthur Naylor (Principal), and Professor Dick Fisher (Head of St Mary’s 2012 Preparations).

In a question and answer session, Darren Campbell shared the life experiences and inspiration that had motivated him to achieve his Olympic successes and said that there is "no doubt that St Mary’s students would be among those competing in the 2012 Olympics."

Athletics Union President and event organiser, Jason Arday, said, "Darren Campbell’s visit was one of the highlights of one of St Mary’s University College’s most successful seasons within the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sports) calendar. With BUCS Athletics Outdoors and the Cricket season still to come, we hope that more success could be on its way."

St Mary’s Students’ Union is grateful to Endsleigh Insurance for sponsoring the dinner and for all its support throughout the sporting season.
