Thirty-eight Catering and Facilities staff at St Mary’s University College collected awards last week from Principal Dr Arthur Naylor at a ceremony marking their participation in national vocational development training (NVQ). The awards emphasised the University College’s commitment to staff development.
Working closely with training providers, staff at the University College successfully passed a range of qualifications including Hospitality Supervision Level 3, NVQ Level 2 Food and Drink, Level 2 Food and Safety, NVQ Level 2 Cleaning, NVQ Level 2 Controlled Parking and ESOL (English as a second language) training alongside the NVQs.
Dr Naylor said today: “These qualifications are really important. It is vital that we have a well trained staff team. It is excellent to have so many staff gaining qualifications.”
One of the training providers, Mark Cook, Executive Director at The Skills People, said: “The skills agenda is becoming ever more important for organisations like St Mary’s who realise that to be successful you need well trained and skilled staff.
He added: “There is a whole range of vocational training available to employers. As well as improving the skills and motivation of staff it can also help make a real difference to a company’s bottom line.”
