New Undergraduate Programme Launched

The School of Communication, Culture and Creative Arts at University College, Twickenham is launching a new undergraduate degree in Film and Popular Culture from September 2010 onwards.

The new degree will offer a range of courses in Film and Popular Culture including vocational pathways in video production, screenwriting and industry work experience. The degree can be studied on its own or in combination with another subject.

Dr Caroline Ruddell, Programme Director of Film and Television said, "‘'the new Film and Popular Culture Programme is an innovative new degree that focuses on key areas of popular culture such as film, television, popular music and the internet. We aim to explore popular culture in both an historical and contemporary context, and in particular examine technological and cultural convergence and the role popular culture might play in relation to aspects of cultural identity."

The degree was successfully validated by an external panel of academics from Roehampton University, Kingston University and De Montfort University this week.

Academic Director Dr Daragh Minogue said, "Dr Caroline Ruddell and Dr Richard Mills and their teams in Film and Television and Cultural Studies are to be congratulated for designing an exciting new programme."
