Nutrition Students Team Up With Kingston Royals

The food preparation laboratory at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has been refurbished and will be making an important contribution to athlete education on the role of diet to optimise sporting performance in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The new facility will allow the university college’s Nutrition students to develop their skills in the areas of sensory evaluation of foods, food safety, menu planning, food composition and recipe manipulation and development to meet specific dietary needs.

As part of its commitment to student development, the Nutrition team invited all students on the programme to join staff for a fun session on the Thames with the Kingston Royals Dragon Boat Team.

Ann L Kennedy, Academic Director at the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science at the university college said, "despite the wet weather the students enjoyed  learning a new skill, meeting students from other year groups, getting to know their tutors, working as a team and generally having a fun time."
