Good First Term For New Course

A new Foundation Degree (FdA) for the Integrated Children’s Services sector has successfully completed its first term at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. The two year part-time foundation degree was developed in conjunction with local employers.

Sessions take place every week with students coming from a wide range of Local Authority roles. This is one of a new range of qualifications designed for the Integrated Children’s Services which is made up of employees from across the sector including Social Services, Education, Health, Youth Justice, Leisure and the Voluntary Sector.

This is an area of work at the heart of the St Mary’s mission statement which ‘fosters equality of opportunity for all and the integrity of the individual, respects human diversity and actively works towards a more just, prosperous and inclusive society.'

The course aims to encourage greater inter-agency team working, increased awareness of safeguarding procedures leading to improved outcomes for children, young people and families.

Programme Director Martin Lowther said that he was delighted at the response from the first group of students.

The Foundation Degree was developed in response to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) recent new legalisation and guidance that has been produced for the Integrated Children’s Sector following the media coverage relating to children and families.
