The Centre for Bioethics and Emerging Technologies at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham will host a day conference entitled Patients, Professionals and Society: What drives healthcare? at the University College on Saturday March 13th (10.00am – 3.45pm)
Conference Convenor Trevor Stammers, Lecturer in Healthcare Ethics, St Mary’s University College, said that the day was attracting interest from a wide range of people.
In the morning there will be two speakers: Where ends the virtue…?’ – Human Virtues in Health and Social Care Provision will be presented by Dr Ann Gallagher, Reader in Nursing Ethics and Director, International Centre for Nursing Ethics, University of Surrey; Dr David Misselbrook, Dean, Royal Society of Medicine, will the look at The Ethics of Power in the Professional-Patient Relationship.
There will be an international perspective in the afternoon when Dr Brenda Appleby, St Mary’s Visiting Scholar from St Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, USA will look at Theological Reflections on Public Health Ethics.
The Ethics of Choice in Healthcare, presented by Prof Rodney Taylor, Centre for Bioethics and Emerging Technologies, St Mary’s University College, brings the day to a close.
