A Twickenham band containing two St Mary’s University College graduates has made it into the regional finals of the UK’s largest music competition for unsigned music artists, Live and Unsigned.
The regional final will take place on Sunday March 28th at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex with the winners earning a place at the National Showcase Grand Final at London’s O2 Arena.
The band, Liz Arcane and the White Lightning, were formed only two years ago when a mutual friend of all four band members got the group together to record a soundtrack to a short film. Impressed by their cumulative efforts, the group was formed and have been prolific with recording sessions and local live performances ever since.
Jo Albany, drummer in Liz Arcane and the White Lightning, is a St Mary’s Psychology graduate and a current member of staff at the University College.
She said today: “I have always dreamed of playing in a band to big crowds. Now we have the chance to go for our dreams and give the judges, our friends and supporters a good show in the regional finals.”
For Liz Arcane and the White Lightning the battle was against hundreds of other artists and bands to secure their place in the regional finals. They were given a mere two minutes to impress the judges with their original material and get one step closer to the grand final in London.
The main prize for the ultimate competition winner includes a management and recording contract, as well as a national tour and a chance to release a music video.
