CHASES Trains Adventurers for South Pole Expedition

A team of six British adventurers will be working with St Mary’s University College, Twickenham's Centre for Health, Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences (CHASES) in preparation for an unsupported expedition to the South Pole to take place in November 2010.

The group of six men will spend time at St Mary’s with the CHASES team in the spring of 2010 in order to prepare physically for the challenge. The training provided by the team will include fitness testing and advice, psychological assessment and nutritional support.

In order to prepare for the 460 mile trek and sub-zero temperatures with a wind chill reaching as low as -40°C the adventurers will spend at least three weekends with the CHASES team at St Mary’s where they will be put through their paces, have any weaknesses identified and be able to take recommendations for their further training.

Centres Director for CHASES Dr Charles Pedlar said, "As a centre we are keen to help any individuals or teams achieve their challenge no matter how large or small."

More information about the expedition can be found on the Best of Brisitsh South Pole website.
