St Mary’s University College, Twickenham's Careers Service are getting involved in Volunteer England’s Student Volunteering Week (Inspiring futures; Connecting communities) which runs from 22nd-28th February.
The week was established in 2001 and is now an annual fixture in the calendar for the student volunteering sector. The week raises the national profile of Further and Higher Education volunteering.
St Mary’s Careers Service are hosting a week of presentations from local, national and international volunteer organisations including St John’s Ambulance Service, Mencap, and the Richmond Volunteer Centre. The hope is to give students the knowledge about volunteering and its benefits, not only to the wider community, but also to their working life once they graduate.
Students will also be able to gain valuable skills from Age Concern and sport coaching with children from KEEN London.
Jenna Robinson, Careers Information Officer, said today: “Not only does volunteering support the well established ethos of St Mary’s students supporting local organisations, but also helps them build their skills and experience, which is hugely valued by potential employers.”
