Elite athletes from St Mary’s University College, Twickenham achieved personal and collaborative success in their international competitions at the weekend.
Mo Farah and Andy Vernon came 1st and 2nd respectively in the senior men’s 12k UKA McCain Cross Challenge which also incorporated the World Cross Country trials. The success means both athletes will be competing in Bydgoszcz, Poland on Sunday 28th March 2010 at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
In the Womens 8k race, current St Mary’s University College undergraduate Steph Twell earned 2nd place and former St Mary’s student Fay Fullerton came 3rd. This result also guarantees them a place in the World Championships in Poland next week.
At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, current St Mary’s Undergraduate Andrew Osagie marked his first senior vest in team GB and ran a personal best in his heat guaranteeing him a place in the semi final. He narrowly missed a place in the final after losing out to Olympic Gold medallist Ismail Ahmed Ismail.
At the BUCS indoor Championships current St Mary’s Undergraduate Tim Burt earned 2nd place in the Men’s 1500m final improving his Personal Best by over 8 seconds.
