Vince Cable MP being interviewed on SMUC Radio

Vince Cable MP Interviewed on SMUC Radio

Dr Vincent Cable, MP for Twickenham and Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, visited St Mary’s University College, Twickenham last week and recorded an interview for SMUC Radio’s regular politics show hosted by Tarik Habte.

During the interview Dr Cable MP answered questions about the speculation regarding his suitability for the role of Chancellor of the Exchequer in the event of a hung parliament. Dr Cable did not rule the issue out as he has done in previous discussions, instead suggesting that he could be in line for a position in the future.

He also exclusively told SMUC Radio what issues will be discussed in the televised live debate on Channel 4 on 29th March with Conservative Shadow Chancellor George Osborne and Chancellor Alastair Darling. Depending on the forthcoming budget, he intends to address the budget deficit, growth in the economy, making credit available to solvent British companies and he also plans to talk about working towards a greener economy.

Dr Cable also gave his views on increases in tuition fees, which he feels in the long term should be phased out and abandoned altogether, making higher education free for everyone. He spoke about internship opportunities for graduates and also stressed the importance of young people voting.
