Sports Journalism Degree Receives National Accreditation

From September 2010 St Mary’s University College, Twickenham will be awarding a taught Masters Degree in Sports Journalism, accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).

NCTJ logoThe NCTJ is the largest training provider for the news industry in the UK. Accreditation of this kind means St Mary’s postgraduates will be able to sit exams in News Writing, Sports Journalism, Public Affairs and Media Law while completing a journalism portfolio.

The course will give the opportunity for twenty students to study print, broadcast and online journalism.

Those teaching the course will include former BBC broadcasters and journalists from News Associates, a sports news agency in Wimbledon.

Course leader, Dr Daragh Minogue said:  “We have teamed up with News Associates, so our students can get first hand experience of what it is like to work in one of the most rapidly evolving industries in the world.

"Our students will have the rare opportunity to carry out match reports and interviews at nationally and internationally televised sporting events. They will also study alongside elite athletes training for London 2012. It is a unique training experience and competition for places on the course will be intense”.
