Six schools in Hounslow will attend an awards evening at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham on Thursday 25th March.
The celebration will take place in the University College’s historic Waldegrave Drawing Room and will mark the end of a two year journey through Aimhigher London West’s Collaborative Project.
The evening, attended by parents and teachers, will see each pupil commended for having successfully completed the two year programme. After presentations by the pupils, staff and university undergraduates, certificates will be presented by University College Vice Principal Dr Michael Hayes.
The project is designed to provide insight to pupils into what it may entail to go on to study in higher education.
The pupils from Brentford School for Girls, The Green School, Gumley House Convent School, Isleworth and Syon School, Longford Community School, and St Mark’s Catholic School have spent two years regularly visiting local universities allowing them to speak to current undergraduates and staff and learn more about the process of applying to and attending Higher Education providers.
St Mary’s University College, Roehampton University, Brunel University and Thames Valley University have provided the pupils with taster sessions, campus visits, mock lectures and fact finding exercises in order to better equip them with information about the journey into Higher Education.
Widening Participation Officer Alasdair Robertson said today: “This evening is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievement of all those who were involved in the project.”
