A Twickenham band containing two St Mary’s University College, Twickenham graduates has made it through to the semi finals of the UK’s largest music competition for unsigned music artists- Live and Unsigned. They battled against seventeen other bands in the regional final at the weekend at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex.
They now have a place in the semi final on May 2nd, also to be held at the Beck Theatre at 8.30pm. The winners of the semi final will earn a place at the National Showcase Grand Final at London’s O2.
The band, Liz Arcane and the White Lightning were formed only two years ago when a mutual friend of all four band members got the group together to record a soundtrack to a short film; impressed by their cumulative efforts the group was formed and have been prolific with recording sessions and local live performances ever since.
Jo Albany, drummer in Liz Arcane and the White Lightning, is a St Mary’s University College Psychology graduate and a current member of staff at St Mary’s.
She said today: “The regional finals were the most amazing adrenaline filled experience of my life so far. We had the loudest support on the day and we harnessed the energy from the screaming and cheering crowd to inspire us to give the best performance of our band life so far. We want to go all the way in this competition!”
