St Mary’s University College, Twickenham this week publishes its annual report for 2009 online. Bishop George Stack, Chair of Governors, pinpoints the huge contribution made by the core staff team: “Success in any area of activity within the University College depends on the talents, commitment and contribution of its staff.”
The full colour presentation represents a highly successful and exciting year for the University College in south west London.
Meanwhile, Principal Dr Arthur Naylor, stresses that sticking close to the historic ethos of the University College is one of the reasons for its success: “I would emphasise that, through times of change, St Mary’s remains fully committed to maintaining its ethos and character and, as has been the case since its foundation in 1850, its commitment to wider access to education at all levels.”
“The University College continues to perform well in terms of academic achievement, student satisfaction and employment prospects for its graduates” he writes. He also pinpoints the aim of “Strengthening the research base as St Mary’s moves to full university status”.
Dr Naylor continues: “It was very pleasing that the results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise showed that research in Theology and in English was awarded the highest possible accolade defined as ‘world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour'”.
As the University College, which has a strong reputation for sport, looks to the future, Dr Naylor emphasises that “Among our strategic aims for 2008-12 is full engagement in the opportunities afforded by London 2012. Following our designation as a Pre-Games Training Camp we were delighted to be chosen by the South African Olympic Team as their base for 2012 preparations.”
