Nike Selects Student as Ambassador

Laura Lee, a Physical Education Secondary undergraduate at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, has been selected as a Nike Select ambassador to encourage the participation of women in Sport.

The Nike team searched universities across the UK to pick women who they felt would be ambitious, confident and inspirational in promoting sporting participation to women at their individual universities.

Laura Lee is the first Nike Select ambassador to be picked from St Mary’s University College, and her role over the coming year will be to encourage female students into training clubs and events on campus with the support of the Nike Select team.

Laura said: "I can't believe that out of the whole of the UK and Ireland I am one of the girls chosen for the Nike Select team. I work incredibly hard to promote female participation, opening up opportunities in school when I am teaching as well as in my free time when I am training in netball, rowing and running.

"It is really great news to now finally be recognised for my achievements and I hope now, with the support from Nike, I can go on to achieve my ongoing aim of promoting female participation in sport."

The Nike Select Programme is now into its second year. In 2009 the Nike Select ambassadors worked with young women to gain physical and mental strength in training events on university campuses across the country, and were also the stars of a Nike viral advert and competed in the Nike HardCorps training challenges.
