The Aquinas Centre at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham this week welcomes twelve Australian Primary School Principals from the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
As part of their time spent in the UK, the Principals will be taking part in a series of seminars and workshops on topics such as The Changing UK and International Context of Education, The Leadership of Change and Innovation and Developing a Strategic Perspective, as well as meeting many key staff and educationalists from St Mary’s and it’s partnership institutions.
Antony Forrest, Director of the Aquinas Centre, said today: “This is a wonderful opportunity to work in depth with colleagues from the other side of the world and, although the new Centre is newly established, it is rewarding to know that it has already been recognised as an excellent source of learning in this vital field. Professors John West-Burnham and Paul Clarke, our leading academics, have truly brought world-class expertise into the core work of the University College.”
The visit comes in response to Prof John West-Burnham, Professor of Educational Leadership at St Mary’s, working in Australia on the development of school leadership.
Prof West-Burnham said: "Leadership and the building of social capital in and between schools and the communities they serve is of global importance, and this study tour demonstrates the Archdiocese’s investment in the learning of men and women building life-chances for young people. I am delighted that the group have chosen to work with the Aquinas Centre in order to further our shared purpose, one which is at the heart of St Mary’s 160-year old mission.
