Community Singing Event Announced

'Mouthful' poster‘Mouthful’, a day of community singing for all ages and abilities will take place at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham on Sunday 14th November from 11am until 4pm.

Patsy Burn, a voice specialist and Drama lecturer at the University College, created the event for members of the local community and St Mary’s students and staff to start a series of vocal events in St Mary's Theatre covering areas such as voice and health, presentation skills, vocal anatomy and accent and dialect.

Patsy said of the event, "The voice is so important to who we are and how we present ourselves, but more often than not we don’t even know how it works, that’s what these events are created for – to make people aware of their voices and how to use them in many different ways."

Since taking up the post of Drama lecturer at St Mary’s, Patsy worked closely with local choirs to create the community singing event for Ham House’s 400th birthday this May in conjunction with the National Trust and Drama St Mary’s. The event attracted over 4,000 people, as well as over 500 singers in 20 choirs.

Patsy now wants to recreate that project at St Mary’s University College, and Mouthful will be the launch event.
