Community Badminton Programme Launched

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham this week launched a new ‘No Strings Badminton’ programme with a free open event to give students, staff and the local community a taste of what is on offer at St Mary’s.

The event was attended by England Senior Men’s Singles player Daryl Jacobs, who spent time providing players with hints and tips to improve their game.

Over fifty people attended the event organised by Tegan Pickles, Badminton Officer at the University College, with many taking part in the singles and doubles competitions run throughout the afternoon.

St Mary’s is working in conjunction with Badminton England to deliver sessions to people of mixed ability at a level they are comfortable with. ‘No Strings Badminton’ is a fresh, new initiative that makes it simple and fun for people to welcome the benefits of badminton into their lives.

Daryl Jacobs said today: “When I was a developing player, pathways like these didn’t exist. There were no networks to find out about local clubs and sessions. It’s great to have taster days such as this to get everyone playing together and improving the standard of play. The turnout was excellent and I hope to see it continue”.
