‘Movember’ Fundraising Underway

Staff from St Mary's University College, Twickenham are once again growing moustaches for ‘Movember’, the international foundation that encourages men to grow facial hair in order to raise awareness for men's health and specifically prostate cancer charities.

Staff and students from the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science at St Mary’s have been taking part in ‘Movember’ annually now for several years and are trying to join with, and recruit more, staff and students university college wide to raise the profile further with the hope of increased fundraising.

Rik Mellor, a lecturer in Human Sciences, said: "By the time the four weeks of ‘Movember’ are up, we will have been both stressed out and quite amused – in equal measures – about growing our moustaches in aid of the Prostate Cancer Charity.

"We're trying to raise awareness of men's health with a main focus on prostate cancer. In 2008 we raised in excess of £300, in 2009 we raised over £200 – This year we're aiming bigger, better and with more hair!"
