The Centre for Bioethics and Emerging Technologies (CBET) at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham this month received a substantial grant award from Porticus UK to develop its role as a hub for cross-European consultation on Bioethics.
The project will be led by Dr Trevor Stammers who, in partnership with the University of Leuven, Belgium and the Anscombe Centre in Oxford, will be directly engaging with the ethical aspects of policy initiatives across the EU.
Bid co-ordinator Dr Anthony Towey said today: "We are grateful to the Porticus fund for facilitating this exciting opportunity to develop further avenues of interaction with the political and statutory bodies which frame ethical directives both at home and abroad. We will endeavour to make our mark."
CBET focuses on the ethical and social implications of biomedicine and nanotechnology, and other new technologies. Through research, teaching, stakeholder dialogue and international networking, the Centre engages in areas such as ethics and philosophy; policy, law and regulation; governance and risk management; and the broad social and economic implications of leading edge technologies.
