Students and staff in Drama St Mary’s at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham are continuing to make an impact in the theatre profession with an ongoing programme of professional work outside the campus.
Third year drama students have won bursaries in the Oval House First Bites bursary scheme for emerging artists for their production The Shape of Clouds. Their play ran at the Oval House Theatre over the summer of 2010 and they now have the opportunity to develop this work into a full-scale production in 2011.
Prof Trevor Walker, Academic Director for Drama Programmes, is producing and directing the premiere rehearsed reading of Nell Dunn’s new play Home Death at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). The production is funded by the National Council for Palliative Care’s Dying Matters Coalition and the cast includes Edward de Souza and Sara Kestelman.
Kasia Zaremba-Byrne has been awarded an Arts Council grant to develop a new work with her physical theatre company, Lost Banditos. St Mary's University College will be one of the tour dates in March 2011.
Drama tutor Sarah Esdaile's production of Crash by William Nicholson has just opened at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. This follows on from her previous 5-star West Yorkshire Playhouse production of Death of a Salesman.
Lecturer Mark Griffin's play in progress, Bosnia, had its first reading at the Oval House earlier this month to an invited audience.
Recent Drama graduate Steph O’Driscoll is assistant director at the Lyric, Hammersmith. She has been assisting Sean Holmes on his acclaimed production of Blasted by Sarah Kane.
