Rik Mellor, a lecturer from the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham completed the Manchester to London bike ride alongside his two friends Ed Walsh and Stuart Lonsdale from Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th of November.
The team of three completed the 237 mile ride in a time of 18 hours 58 minutes and 8 seconds. So far they have raised over £1,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
They followed a route from Manchester through the Peak District to Derby and then on to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London where they were welcomed by children, staff and charity workers for a reception and tour.
Rik said of the challenge, “We covered over 230 miles in cold, dark and windy conditions. The aim of raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, and a much needed facility, which is undergoing important development for the future, really spurred us on. We knew it would be well worth the effort!”
