Fourteen athletes from the St Mary’s Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) have been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Cross Country Championships in Portugal on 12th December.
St Mary’s student Andy Vernon was automatically named in the senior men’s team following his win in the trial race in Liverpool last weekend. Ex-students Mark Draper and Mitch Goose will also compete, the latter with current student Ashley Harrell in the U23 race in Portugal.
The junior men’s team includes four EPACC based athletes: first year student John McDonnell and Jonny Hay, who placed first and second at the trial race, and current students Andy Combs and Ryan Saunders.
EPACC athlete and three-time European junior cross country champion Stephanie Twell will compete in the senior women’s race along with former student and reigning European champion Hayley Yelling-Higham. Emma Pallant will run in the U23 race following her victory at the trial.
The EPACC will again be well represented in the junior women’s event with current student Charlotte Purdue leading a team which also includes EPACC athletes Emelia Gorecka and Georgia Peel.
