Last week Dr Vince Cable MP visited SMUC Radio, the student run radio station at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, for the second time this year.
Dr Cable, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Twickenham and Business Secretary, explained why he now supports a raise in university tuition fees up to a maximum of £9,000 a year and spoke of the compromises his party has had to make by governing in coalition with the Conservatives.
He also provides an insight into the working styles of Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne, including the conflicts that can arise when working with alongside differing political ideologies.
SMUC Radio won bronze at the Student Radio Awards 2010 for its previous interview with Vince Cable in the run up to the May 2010 general election.
Tarik Habte, presenter of the Current Affairs programme on SMUC radio, commented: “It was good to have Vince back on the show to discuss what has changed since the election and how being in government differs from being in opposition, particularly in light of the current unrest over university fees.
“We hope to welcome him back in the New Year and are lining-up interviews with other prominent politicians following Vince and David Lammy’s visits this year. 2011 is looking like an exciting year for SMUC Radio and the Current Affairs programme.”
