Students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, competed at the British Under 23 Weightlifting Championships recently.
Five students, who all study Strength and Conditioning Science at the University College, competed at the event which took place at Oldbury College in the West Midlands, with four students taking home medals.
Emily Cushion and Justin Oro-Campos took away Gold medals in the 63kg and 105kg weight categories respectively. Fellow students Sam Colgate and Adam Mattiussi secured Silver medals in 85kg and 69kg weight categories, whilst Kevin Young finished fourth in the 85kg class, narrowly missing a Bronze medal.
Students also performed well at the All England Powerlifting Championships. Rob Rees scored a total of 717.5kg across three lifts, squat, bench press and deadlift, whilst Leo Doubble achieved a personal best of 475kg, putting him 12th place in the men’s open event.
