Students and staff at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, have been getting in the festive spirit during Advent to help raise money for local children’s charities.
The annual carol singing appeal which is organised by the Chaplaincy Centre at St Mary’s, saw more than 100 students and staff travel into central London to sing Christmas carols. The event ran over two days, and helped to raise £2,000 which will be distributed among three charities which the University College Chaplaincy is supporting this year: Lourdes HCPT Group 181, the Strawberry Hill Overseas and Community Concern (SHOCC) and the Roy Kinnear House.
Carol singing is an excellent example of the University College community working together to raise a substantial amount of money for local and national children’s charities at Christmas.
St Mary’s Chaplain Fr Gerard Devlin commented, “Carol singing is an annual event at St Mary’s and helps us to raise a significant amount of money each year for our nominated charities.
“It is a big effort made by staff and students which will go a long way to making Christmas a special time for young people in London and beyond.”
