Best-selling Author Tony Hawks to Present St Mary’s Charity Screening

Wednesday 6th March – St Mary’s University College, Twickenham hosts charity film screening of Tony Hawks’ film ‘Playing the Moldovans at Tennis’.

On Wednesday 6th March British author and comedian Tony Hawks will present a charity screening of Playing the Moldovans at Tennis at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. The screening will raise money for Centrul Tony Hawks, a charity for Moldovan children who have chronic illnesses such as cerebral palsy. Hawks wrote, co-directed and starred in the film, which premiered last summer. The movie also features Stephen Frost, famous for his regular stint in Whose Line is it Anyway?, and veteran Moldovan actor Anatol Durbala. Moldovan ambassador to the UK, Iulian Fruntasu, will also be attending the screening, as well as taking a tour of the University College. The film will be shown on St Mary’s new state-of-the-art cinema screen, the Pete Postlethwaite Picture House, which was officially launched this week. The film is based on an internationally best-selling book of the same title, which sees Tony make a quirky wager that he could track all 11 of the Moldovan football team and beat them at tennis. He plans to use the material as the basis of a new book, but soon finds out that he might have bitten off more than he can chew. Previously Hawks starred in another adaptation of one of his best-selling books, Round Ireland with a Fridge. He is also a stand-up comic famous for starring in programmes such as Red Dwarf and Have I Got News for You. The film will start at 5pm, and is followed by a Q and A session with Hawks, together with light refreshments. Tickets cost £5 and £2 for concessions.
