St Mary’s AU President Raises Money for Charity

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, Athletics Union President Luke Allen takes part in charity challenge to raise money for Special Olympics Richmond.

The Students’ Union at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, is raising money for Special Olympics Richmond with an unusual sporting challenge. St Mary’s Athletics Union President Luke Allen has embarked on a charity challenge, which will see him competing in the 20 sports offered by the University College. The challenge is all in aid of the Special Olympics Richmond, which was established in conjunction with St Mary’s as part of its Olympic legacy as a way to provide sporting opportunities to people with learning difficulties and disabilities. If Luke hits his £1,000 fundraising target, he will join the St Mary’s cheerleading squad for a one-off performance at the 2013 West London Varsity against Brunel University. The challenge has got off to a good start after Luke participated in football, badminton, rowing, athletics, basketball, rugby union and cricket. He commented, “I’ve taken part in several sports now, so I’m nearly half way there. It’s great to be supporting Special Olympics Richmond as they do fantastic work for people with disabilities and learning difficulties.  It’s also great to experience the atmosphere and passion that we see in all of our sports teams. I start cheerleading training week in preparation for Varsity, but of course that won’t happen unless I hit the £1,000 target though, so I urge people to get donating!” To donate to the charity challenge, please visit Luke’s Just Giving page.
