Graduates interested in studying for a MA in Irish Studies, are being invited to a series of free seminars at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham this April to June. St Mary’s Centre for Irish Studies (CIS) is holding a number of free sample seminars for London-based graduates looking to study for an MA in Irish Studies. Attendees will be able to come to the University College campus, take part in seminars, meet staff and students. The first seminar, entitled Flann O’Brien on Film: ‘John Duffy’s Brother’, will be held on Tuesday 30th April at 6pm and is presented by St Mary’s Research Fellow Dr Keith Hopper. Hopper, author of a monograph on O’Brien and a forthcoming study of Irish writer and filmmaker Neil Jordan is also a regular contributor to the Times Literary Supplement. The MA in Irish Studies focuses on the inter-connections between Ireland and Britain, as well as an exploration of London as an urban location for transnational Irishness. The course’s London-based location means students have access to a unique network of libraries, archives, community organisations, cultural events and associations with Irish connections. Faculty staff include Prof Lance Pettitt, Prof Mary Hickman, Prof Shaun Richards and Dr Ivan Gibbons, who is the MA programme director. The other dates confirmed for seminars include Tuesday 21st May and Tuesday 4th June. Places are limited.
