Successful St Patrick’s Day Charity Fundraising at St Mary’s

Last week, students at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham got into the St Patrick’s Day spirit, raising money for projects challenging deprivation and poverty in the UK and abroad. On Friday 15^th March, a stall was set up on campus to sell St Patrick’s Day confectionary and merchandise in aid of Strawberry Hill Overseas Community and Concern (SHOCC). SHOCC is an organisation set up by St Mary’s to bring together the charity work that the University College does with local and global communities. Decked out in requisite green attire, students raised money for the brilliant cause, as well as mark Ireland’s cultural and religious celebration which took place on Sunday 17^th March. In two hours the University College students raised a significant amount of money which will go towards SHOCC projects, which includes school projects in Guatemala, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. They encouraged other students to think of other money making ideas to raise money for SHOCC. Last month SHOCC received a generous donation of £1,000 anonymously, which was used to help support one of its lifetime partners, Orkolili School in Tanzania.
