St Mary’s Renews Fairtrade Status

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham has had its Fairtrade accreditation renewed.

St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is pleased to advise that its Fairtrade accreditation has been renewed, demonstrating its commitment to Fairtrade and environmental sustainability, both on campus and in the local community. The University College was awarded Fairtrade status in 2011 after demonstrating its  commitment to Fairtrade by selling and promoting more Fairtrade goods at its Strawberry Hill campus. St Mary’s sells a variety of Fairtrade snacks and drinks, serves Fairtrade refreshments at conferences and events, and also sells merchandise such as t-shirts, jumpers and banners made with Fairtrade cotton in its Students’ Union. In addition, St Mary’s regularly holds events and promotions with product tastings and informational talks especially around Fairtrade Fortnight. This commitment has been officially recognised by the Fairtrade Foundation, who has renewed St Mary’s Fairtrade status for another two years. St Mary’s Vice-Principal David Leen commented, “Fairtrade is an important part of our overall commitment to sustainability so it is both positive and important to have our accreditation re-confirmed.” St Mary’s Deputy Catering Manager Nik Santos said, “We are very pleased with the news of the renewal of Fairtrade Status for St Mary’s.  We are grateful to the Fairtrade Foundation for their support in this process and also to St Mary’s lecturers and students for their active involvement in Fairtrade events and projects. We will continue to promote Fairtrade goods and spread more awareness about Fairtrade especially among our student and staff community.”
