Entry Requirements
A first or second class degree of a United Kingdom
university or equivalent.
A minimum of grade C in GCSE English, Mathematics and Science.
The Irish equivalent to GCSE's is the Irish Leaving Certificate. In order to qualify to apply for the PGCE Primary Programme at St Mary's University College all applicants must already have a C grade or above (at Ordinary level) or a D grade or above (at Higher level) in all three subjects. With regards to the Science, the subject studied must be Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Home Economics and Agricultural Science at Leaving Certificate level is not recognised as be being a science subject. Science studied up to Junior Cert level is not sufficient.
Observation in a primary school. Applicants
are expected to have organised and undertaken a minimum of 2 weeks recent school observation in a primary school.
Physical and mental fitness to teach.
Satisfactory criminal record check.
All entries for Primary PGCE must be received
by 1st December in the proceeding entry year.
