The course team uses a variety of teaching and learning approaches, including lectures, workshop sessions, collaborative and small-group work, paired work, practical and resourceful approaches, use of technology, individual and group student presentations and some self-supported study. A number of external cross-curricular visits (e.g. to museums and exhibitions) also take place.
This range of strategies both caters for a range of preferred learning styles and provides good teaching role models for trainees.
Qualified Teacher Status is awarded when you have successfully achieved all the standards laid down by the Secretary of State for Education and Employment. You are required by the Department for Education and Skills to pass national numeracy, literacy and ICT skills tests. Continuous assessment throughout the programme will determine success.
Coursework assignments are set, normally in term-time only, which complement the work in schools and assist in gaining the QTS Standards. These assignments encourage you to be thoughtful and reflective, but also reinforce the evidence-based nature of the course assessment. Self-assessment is also recognised as a valuable perspective in the evaluation of both school and college-based work.
