St Mary's Online – Independent Learning but not Isolated Learning

Independent learning in an important element of all modes of study. A unique feature of the Catholic School Leadership programme is that all students studying a module, wherever they are based, are brought together in one online learning community.

" Welcome, Richard, I am in the second year and attend Saturdays at St Mary's Strawberry Hill so I will not meet you. Look forward to discussing issues with you on-line. You will love this MA course!" A welcome for a member from another centre.

St Mary's Online uses the Blackboard virtual learning environment to provide students with access to a wide range of online resources including 'e-books' and direct links to key websites that offer opportunities for research beyond the excellent hard copy resources that are provided.

We use the 'DISCUSSION GROUP' facility to enable students to reflect upon principles explored in the course and then to share, with fellow students, how these principles can improve practice. Within 'RESOURCES' we provide a wide range of useful literature sources and PowerPoint presentations. You can use WEB LINKS to go direct to relevant websites, including the 'Publications' section within the NCSL website.

Within the discussion section we offer an 'AOB' facility. This has become an sort of CSL blog! Warning - engagement with St Mary's Online can become addictive!

"It is great to catch up on all of the postings. I've been on holiday in Abu Dhabi for the last week - and nowhere near to a PC to check the site ... so now I have heaps of interesting postings to read and reply to." Jacqui

As a bonus, your contributions to discussions can earn you up to 20% of the marks available for the assessment of each module.
