Postgraduate Introduction

Postgraduate Study at St Mary's

St Mary's has a vibrant postgraduate community, offering an increasing number of taught courses as well as research degree programmes. Our strong research culture placed us at the top of similar institutions across the UK in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.

Established in 1850 as a Catholic Foundation, St Mary's aspires to be a distinctive and inclusive place to study, welcoming students of all faiths and none. We are only 30 minutes away from central London, providing access to world-beating libraries and archives, and the opportunity to experience its museums, galleries and entertainment.

Coupled with this we have an excellent academic and graduate employment record, friendly atmosphere and caring student-centred approach that takes into account the specific needs of all of our postgraduate students.

Studying and Experiencing

St Mary's University College offers a high-quality research culture with a number of our staff achieving national and international excellence in the 2001 RAE. Staff research underpins all of our programmes and students who wish to undertake a research degree will be supported by experts in their field.

St Mary's postgraduate programmes offer a learning experience of the highest quality that will further enhance your life skills as well as advancing your knowledge in your chosen field. Investment and new buildings means our teaching and learning facilities are excellent. Innovative and varied teaching and learning methods are employed to provide challenging and stimulating programmes of study.

Supporting students is core to St Mary's mission with student support consistently being rated as excellent by the QAA. We pride ourselves not on only the academic support we provide, but also our pastoral and social support, taking into account the unique needs of postgraduate students who have to balance their study with other commitments. We will help you in achieving your goals by offering a flexible approach to your study where possible and fitting in with your needs. Supervisors to research degree students are readily available to guide you through your programme of research.
