Sport at St Mary's

St Mary's is a High Performance Centre for sport, and the largest and busiest centre in London for the English Institute of Sport (EIS). Over 100 performers from around 15 sports access the sports science and sport medicine facilities and services offered at St Mary's, and there is a wide range of links and partnerships with national governing bodies and major sporting organisations. The University College is home to the UK Athletics National Endurance Centre and is accredited by BASES for sport science support and physiotherapy.

This high-profile background is an extremely strong platform for research and scholarship in sport science, sport medicine and related areas and there is a good deal of synergy between the work of the EIS and academic staff. Laboratory facilities are constantly evolving and St Mary's is well equipped for its highly regarded programmes in sport rehabilitation.

There are plenty of opportunities for postgraduate students to tap into the research opportunities and academic expertise at St Mary's, which flow from having a national profile and visits from international sports performers from all over the world. Alongside this focus on elite performance there is still a high regard for sports participation in general, and sport in all its facets can be researched, studied and practised at St Mary's.

St Mary's has extensive training and competition facilities, including 16 acres of playing fields at nearby Teddington Lock and St Mary's makes special arrangements for the requirements of elite performers who wish to combine study with sport.
