Work Placements

Between September and May, the course is normally taught over four consecutive days, usually Tuesday to Friday, leaving three days a week and evenings for work experience. In the summer, the students devote even more time to work experience. This is an essential part of our training programme.

Our students take full advantage of our location as well as our extensive contacts in the industry. We already have a good working relationship with a number of news organisations, broadcasters and publishers including Sky Sports News, Haymarket, who publish FourFourTwo and other leading sports titles as well as our training partners, Sportsbeat, who will offer our trainees opportunities to write stories, produce match reports and carry out interviews for all their major publications.

Our current students have already worked for news organisations such as News of the World, The Times, the Press Association, Newsquest, RTE in Ireland, Portsmouth News, and Sportsister Magazine. In February 2011, they all start work FourFourTwo. And when they are not studying or on a work placement, they either run their own sports show on SMUC Radio or produce content for their own sports magazine Sportsgazette.
