Enterprise is a broad term which consists of a number of different activities relating to knowledge exchange (KE), business and employer liaison (including internships), third stream activities, events and conference management, fundraising and philanthropy.
Successful knowledge exchange activity was generated initially from areas traditionally strong in teaching, and often with an established research base. There is an increasing cross-over between research and knowledge exchange activity across the institution, demonstrating significant engagement within and external to the academic sector.
We have a number of specialist Centres at St Mary’s which provide a hub for knowledge exchange activity. This activity has generated a number of extremely successful projects with external partners. KE activity has been developed further over the past eighteen months by a dedicated member of staff who has promoted this activity and co-ordinated the effort across the University College.
We have a well established system of internship provision and strong employer links, provided by the Centre for Workplace Learning. This central unit provides opportunities for students to go into the workplace and for employers to engage with skilled and enthusiastic undergraduates from a range of programmes.
St Mary’s has a proud history of fundraising and giving (link to fundraising page), with a well established Alumni and a range of charitable interests.
St Mary’s has also developed a reputation as a popular venue for conferences and events, due to its excellent location and beautiful campus in Strawberry Hill.
