St Mary’s has a vibrant research culture and environment, providing an individualised and highly supportive environment for academic staff and postgraduate research degree students.
The results of the 2008 RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) clearly demonstrate the University College’s strong profile of research with work that has been rated as world-leading in Theology, Divinity and History, and English Language and Literature, and internationally excellent research in Education and Sport-Related Studies.
Research Culture
Our research strategy places emphasis on consolidating and further developing the culture of research, including pedagogical research across the University College and supporting established areas of research strength.
This is further evidenced by strong research links with other institutions both at home and abroad, as well as with community organisations and groups.
Research Degree Programmes Available
We offer the opportunity to study for an MPhil or PhD, working on your research project alongside highly experienced researchers.
These research degrees involve defining your own area of research enquiry, working closely with a team who will guide and support you.
