PhD Studentship Applications

St Mary’s has fostered the intellectual, physical and spiritual development of its students to assist them to have successful careers and flourishing lives since its foundation in 1850. Our beautiful campus is situated in the grounds of the historic Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham, in close proximity to the National Archives in Kew and with easy access to central London.

There is a co-ordinated institutional postgraduate research student programme, with regular activities at University College and School level. In addition students have access to a range of research training seminars at the University of Surrey, and a wide range of provision across London-based institutions.

School of Sport, Health and Applied Science – Sports Rehabilitation Doctoral Studentship

Applications are invited for a fully-funded full-time three-year PhD studentship at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, London, to begin on 1st September 2013.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Conor Gissane, on a topic addressing any aspect of Sports Rehabilitation. potential topic to investigate would be concussion surveillance and prevalence in sport, but other topics would be considered.

The studentship will provide full-time PhD student fees of £4,040 p.a. and a bursary of £13,000 p.a. Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant discipline, as well as an established knowledge, preferably at MSc level.

School of Culture, Communication and Creative Arts – Walpole Doctoral Studentship

Applications are invited for a fully-funded full-time three-year PhD studentship to begin on Tuesday 1st October 2013.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Horace Walpole Chair of English Literature, Prof Fiona Robertson, on a topic addressing any aspect of the relationship between literature and architecture in the period 1750 to 1850. Potential topics include the work of individuals or groups; particular literary-architectural styles; links in theory or in aesthetic practice; and issues pertinent to both disciplines in the period, such as restoration, antiquarianism, eclecticism, revivalism, collecting, originality, and private space.

The studentship will provide full-time PhD student fees of £4,040 p.a. and a bursary of £13,000 p.a. Applicants should have a good first degree in a relevant discipline, as well as an established knowledge, preferably at MA level, of 18th or 19th century British culture.
