The SHOCC Catenian Bursary

Started in 2018, the SHOCC/Catenian bursary provides £2,000 each year to enable a recent graduate or current St Mary's student to volunteer at one of its Tanzanian school projects. Past student volunteers have stayed for six weeks at Orkilili Secondary School. From 2023, there will be opportunities provided at St Jude's Primary Academy at Mto Wa Mbu and we are hoping to develop a placement at St. Marie Eugenie Girls' Secondary school at Moshi.

Past volunteers who have stayed at Orkilili know what an impact they can have on the school and on themselves. As well as helping to deliver lessons across the curriculum, volunteers can also help with extra-curricula activities that make good use of their skills such as running, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and football.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual or up to two individuals who will share the bursary and who will contribute to teaching and learning at the schools. Accommodation and meals will be provided and there will be opportunities to travel, including climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. Volunteers need to be between the ages of 16 and 25 and meet the Catenian selection criteria. These include being a Catholic.

For more information please see https://www.catenianbursary.com/

The SHOCC Trustees will require the volunteer(s) to complete a short report on their return in the form of a written, video and/or verbal presentation. This may take the form of a presentation given to a local Catenian circle or church group.
