Sports massageITEC (QCF) Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy

30 Credit Course HE Level 2

This course is designed to enable sports therapists to work effectively in sporting environments expanding your client list to include actively engaged people, ranging from team club players to individual athletes. You will be qualified for employment in health clubs and remedial clinics

Content and Assessment
This is a fully comprehensive, professional course. Components include:

• Advanced massage techniques
• Anatomy and physiology
• Contra-indications and indications
• Pre- and post-event treatment
• Management of injuries
• Setting up and management of a practice
• Working alongside physiotherapists

The course is assessed via:

• On going practical assessments and oral questioning
• Log Book - 100hours made up of 50 hours event work and 50 hours of massage treatments
• Log Book – 5 clients, joint assessment evidence
• Final practical exam with oral questioning (viva)
• Anatomy and Physiology multiple-choice theory paper (50 questions)
• 2 hour massage theory paper
• Research assignment

 You will also accumulate a portfolio of evidence of learning, a useful tool for later reference.

Requirements:
Candidates must have an Anatomy & Physiology qualification and a recognised level 3 massage qualification (to include Business, Health, Safety and Hygiene modules). Photocopy evidence of this accreditation must accompany your application. Candidates must also have good health, since the course involves a practical component. A sporting background is advantageous as well.

Due to the amount of information covered in the course home studies of approximately 5 hours per week will be required.

Award:
On successful completion of this module, you will be awarded 30 Higher Education credits. This will be recorded on an academic transcript and you will receive a certificate of attendance from St Mary's University College. Additionally upon successful completion of this unit set by the external body: the International Therapy Examination Council, you will receive a Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy.
