On Thursday 27th October Lord Sebastian Coe officially opened the brand new £8.5 million sports centre which will form part of a Pre-Games Training Camp used by athletes from four national Olympic teams in the run up to London 2012 Olympic Games.
The new facilities linked to the revamped sports hall and the Tennis Centre form a single building and provide a focus for sport and physical activity.
In addition to boosting the University College’s world class sporting reputation the new centre will facilitate the work of academic programmes, enhance the development of the student sport teams, as well as enabling St Mary’s to do even more for the local community through a number of excellent partnerships.

The new Sports Centre forms part of St Mary’s Sports Village and includes a state-of-the-art Performance Hall and IFI accredited Fitness Suite.
In addition to this, there is a separate Conditioning Suite which is incorporated in to the centre and consists of 10 brand new bespoke lifting platforms. The Performance Hall caters for a range of physical activity from 5-a-side football to sport specific training and competition, the hall consists of the following:
