About Research

Biography

Emily Montenero is a senior lecturer in Primary Science. She teaches across both the undergraduate and postgraduate training routes within the Institute of Education.

After graduating from the PGCE course at St Mary’s in 2007, she went on to complete her MA in Education, also at St Mary’s, where her research focused on teaching reading to children with English as an additional language in an international school setting.

Before joining the lecturing team at the university, Emily worked as assistant head, class teacher, science leader and mentor over the course of a 16 year teaching career.

More recently, she was head of PGCE science at London South Bank University and an associate consultant at the Primary Stem Education Consultancy (PSEC). Emily continues to consult both at school and MAT level and is writing science content for PLAN assessment.

In her role at St Mary’s, Emily works with science organisations including STEM and Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM). She also facilitates the Primary Science Enhancement Award (PSEA) for trainees at St Mary’s.


Research

Research profile

Emily’s passion for providing high quality science education for children and students has led her to publish articles in the Primary Science Journal and teaching course book 'Science in a Nutshell' published by the Association for Science Education (ASE).
