On campus presentations

We offer volunteering organisations (you must be a registered charity) to present for FREE on campus here in the Careers Service. This is an opportunity for you to start to raise your profile on campus and to take on some more volunteers.

We do a lot of promotion surrounding each event from poster distribution to informing our Careers Liaison Tutors to email the students directly. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee an attendance rate however over the last year attendance has been between 4 and 27 students per event.

For more information please contact us. We currently can’t provide independent on campus presentations for third party recruiters or companies running job boards.

Forums

Each year St Mary’s runs a selection of forums each dedicated to a specific St Mary’s school.  These currently include:

Get Experienced: Sports Coaching
Sports Forum
Creative Industries Forum
Tourism Forum
Philosophy Night
Theology and Religious Studies Evening

These offer an excellent opportunity for SME’s and larger companies to target students in particular subject areas. The forums usually take the form of a short presentation by each employer (normally no more than 6), followed by a Questions and Answer session before a more informal networking opportunity.

Unfortunately we can’t guarantee attendance numbers at these events however over the last year attendance has been between 24 and 60 students.

"My work with St Mary’s Careers Service has included helping the service to source speakers for the tourism forum and also presenting to the students myself. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff and students of St Mary’s.Angela Ivey, Principle Tourism and Marketing Manager, Richmond Council

Teaching Fair

Each year, St Mary’s Careers Service, on behalf of the School of Education, run a Teaching Fair. This fair is open to Local Authorities, Schools, Diocese’s and Teaching Unions and each year has proven successful in educating students and helping them to find their NQT positions.

NEW this year, we are offering the chance for prospective students at St Mary’s looking to do a PGCE the opportunity to attend ‘Thinking of becoming a Teacher’ part of the fair. We are looking for local headmasters, past PGCE students and volunteering organisations specifically locally and working with children, to help make this part of the fair a success.

For further details about the Teaching Fair and the costs involved in attending contact careers@smuc.ac.uk or 020 8240 4055 for a booking form.

In Department Talks

If you would like to give a short presentation or seminar within a specific department here at St Mary’s as part of a careers service talk, please contact us in the first instance and we can liaise with the department.

Alumni and Graduate Link

To target St Mary’s Alumni and recent graduates, please advertise via JobOnline for any vacancies and opportunities you may have.

We then promote these opportunities via the Alumni Office. Occasionally we run events for alumni and would be interested in hearing from you if you could provide suitable guest speakers.
