Serving Others

A Faith that Makes a Difference

The Chaplaincy supports a wide range of Justice and Peace initiatives, and offers students and staff the opportunities to volunteer their time and talents to make a difference to the lives of others.

In the Wider Community

Students volunteeringVolunteers work with and serve a large variety of people living on the margins of society. You will have the opportunity to work with young people, young adults, the elderly, the homeless and people with learning disabilities, whose lives are enriched by your involvement.

If you are interested in volunteering, or want to find out more, please contact the Chaplaincy.

Carol Singing

A good example of the University College community working together is the Carol Singing experience at Christmas, when students and staff sing together, have fun and raise a substantial amount of money for local and national children’s charities.

Students carol singing at Piccadilly Circus Carol Singing in the West End of London was on Thursday 1 December and Friday 2 December 2011.

Students travelled by coach each evening leaving from the College Reception at 6.00pm and return from Central London at 11.00pm.

Volunteers helped with the organisation, and musicians are required to keep us in tune!

Liturgical Ministries

There is the opportunity to be involved in a ministry of service as a Eucharistic Minister, Reader, Sacristan or Usher, and we welcome any students who wish to volunteer.

If you are interested we would be grateful if you would drop in to the Chaplaincy Centre.

Simms Lourdes HCPT

Students at LourdesThe students take part in the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes for children with learning and physical disabilities.

Throughout the academic year students organise fundraising activities which enable them to sponsor children with learning and physical disabilities to travel to Lourdes at Easter.  The money raised is also given to students to help subsidise the cost of their own air fares.

Students are placed in various HCPT groups who need willing helpers and some travel with groups from their home parish.

Academic Credits and Scholarships

Students may earn up to 30 credits towards their qualification through voluntary work placements. A limited number of scholarships are awarded for outstanding service to the community.
